Biomechanics is the study of how your body moves — and the way your feet function has a direct impact on your ankles, knees, hips and lower back. Many common conditions, from plantar fasciitis and Achilles pain to knee problems and shin splints, are rooted in the way your foot strikes the ground and how load is distributed through your lower limb.

A biomechanics assessment typically involves a detailed examination of your posture, gait and foot structure, often using video gait analysis. If an imbalance or abnormal movement pattern is identified, your podiatrist may prescribe custom orthotic insoles — specially made devices worn inside your shoes to correct alignment and redistribute pressure.

The specialists listed here are experienced in gait analysis, custom orthotic prescription, and the management of plantar fasciitis, heel pain, flat feet, high arches and sports-related lower limb conditions. Search by postcode to find a biomechanics specialist near you.
