Foot wounds — particularly those related to diabetes, poor circulation or previous surgery — require specialist care. Without appropriate management, even a small wound can become infected and difficult to heal. Podiatrists specialising in wound care are trained to assess, debride, dress and monitor complex foot wounds, and to work alongside GPs, vascular specialists and diabetes teams where needed.

Common presentations include diabetic foot ulcers, neuropathic ulcers, pressure wounds, post-surgical wounds, and wounds associated with peripheral artery disease. A wound care podiatrist will assess the blood supply to the foot, identify contributing factors such as pressure or footwear, and create a management plan to support healing.

If you or someone you care for has a foot wound that is not healing, is showing signs of infection (redness, warmth, swelling, discharge), or if the patient has diabetes, please seek assessment promptly. Search below to find a wound care specialist near you.
